Reviving the ancient ritual of receiving people into the Church through the sacraments of baptism and Eucharist, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, has been restored throughout many areas of the Western Church.
Anyone interested in inquiring into the possibility of joining the Catholic Church at Easter is invited to attend one or more preliminary sessions . We invite adults who have not yet been confirmed in the Catholic faith. You may have received your Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Eucharist, but somehow slipped through the cracks and were never confirmed. A full initiated Catholic is one who has received ALL FOUR of the Sacraments of Initiation.
The RCIA process consists of the following stages:
Inquiry Stage - open to anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic Church. The Inquiry Stage is a time of questioning and discerning.
The Catechumenate Stage - individuals who desire move into this next stage before entrance into the Church. Non-baptized persons may enter the RCIA for possible baptism into the Catholic/Christian faith. They would also receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
Persons who were baptized with a Trinitarian baptism in other traditions may enter the RCIA as Candidates for Eucharist and Confirmation. Ordinarily Christians baptized in other Christian denominations with the Trinitarian formula (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) are NOT baptized again.
If you are interested to know more about the RCIA program, please call the rectory for more information at (415) 922-1010.
